Presentation of the Key Population Programme Review (KPPR) 2024 Report to the Lagos State Agency for the Control of AIDS (LSACA).

On the 6th of August, Dr. Kalada Green, the Country Director of WACPHD, presented the Key Population Programme Review (KPPR) 2024 Report to Dr. Folakemi Animashaun, CEO of the Lagos State Agency for the Control of AIDS (LSACA).

The KPPR Report, a comprehensive evaluation of HIV prevention and care strategies for key populations, outlines significant findings and insights gathered from assessments across 18 Nigerian states.

This report highlights challenges, successes, and recommendations for improving HIV services to better address the needs of vulnerable populations such as female sex workers, men who have sex with men, people who inject drugs, and transgender individuals

As one of the 18 participating states, Lagos State was pivotal in assessing the effectiveness of HIV prevention and care strategies for key populations, including female sex workers (FSW), men who have sex with men (MSM), people who inject drugs (PWID), and transgender individuals (TG).

The KPPR aimed to:
– Evaluate the progress of HIV programs and their impact on epidemic control.
– Identify successful practices for scaling up interventions.
– Understand barriers to service access and utilization among key populations.

In Lagos State, various data collection methods were employed, such as Polling Booth Surveys (PBS), Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), and In-depth Interviews (IDIs), which provided valuable insights into the local context of HIV programming.

The findings from Lagos will inform future strategies, ensuring tailored and effective responses to the unique challenges faced by key populations in the state, thus contributing to national efforts to control the HIV epidemic in Nigeria by 2030.
